Between Both is the debut issue of Samajh My Gal, a creative magazine dedicated to South Asian diaspora creatives navigating life between cultures.
This introductory edition brings together a curated mix of writing, visual art, and experimental concepts that reflect the layered realities of dual heritage, where identity is not fixed, but constantly negotiated.
Between Both offers a platform for work that resists simplification. It highlights the richness of mother tongues, cultural memory, and lived experience that are often diluted or overlooked. The issue explores themes of belonging, inheritance, language, and contradiction, capturing what it means to exist in the space between ‘both.’
This launch edition is more than a publication. It marks the beginning of a wider creative community, built through open calls, workshops, and ongoing collaboration. Each contribution has been intentionally selected to reflect honesty, tension, and cultural specificity without compromise.
Printed as a physical magazine and supported by a growing digital presence, Between Both sets the foundation for a long-term platform centred on South Asian storytelling that is direct, unfiltered and self-defined.

What do we mean by Samajh My Gal ?
Samajh My Gal roughly means to “understand my point”, but it’s more than translation. It’s what happens when English isn’t enough and your mother tongue steps in.
It reflects how many of us speak, think and feel, moving between languages because we come from more than one place.
This magazine exists to honour that in-between space, without explanation or apology. Let’s celebrate our dual heritages together!
